The Reservoir woman killed by a falling tree in Parkville yesterday has been remembered as a loving mother, wife and friend.

Associate Professor Allison Milner, a suicide, disability and mental health researcher at the University of Melbourne’s School of Population and Global Health, was struck by the tree while walking to work.

Ms Milner, 36, was killed after a large elm tree fell at Princes Park on Monday morning.

Paramedics were called to the incident at Parkville at 8.30am.

The victim was transported to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with critical injuries, but sadly did not survive.

3AW reporter Kiara Parker said the huge tree is near the edge of the park, right beside Royal Parade.

“It’s on the perimeter of Princes Park and it has come right out at the root and come crashing down,” she said.

Nobody else was injured during the incident.

The woman killed today is the fourth person to be killed by a falling tree in Melbourne in just two weeks.

Arborist Len McKeown says he can’t remember another time when there were so many tree deaths in such a short period of time, but the risk shouldn’t be overblown.

“I wouldn’t call it a danger period,” he said.

“Of course we’ve had a significant amount of rain.

“Normally when you’ve got the high winds and the rain you’ll get some sort of lifting.”

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
