The Australian Maritime Safety Authority later told 3AW Breakfast the M V Jawan had been detained.
Investigators boarded the vessel yesterday and their investigation is ongoing.
It’s not yet known how long that investigation will take.
They said there was no suggestion of injury to the 4327 cattle aboard.
“They can’t be all that comfortable, though,” Ross said.
