During the morning news headlines, Neil Mitchell put it to 3AW newsreader David Armstrong that an overseas university had banned applause in favour of jazz hands.

“Clapping, David Armstrong, has been banned at the University of Manchester,” Neil said.

“As they say it triggers anxiety and they want to improve accessibility, students are instead encouraged to use jazz hands.

“Do you know what jazz hands are?”

“Oh I’ve known about jazz hands for a long, long time,” David replied.
