A Moveable Feast: Kate’s Eats and Date: April 4


We’re re-naming it Booze and Dates this week, because the upcoming events are decidedly alcoholic!

Next week is officially ‘World Class Cocktail Week‘ in Melbourne. Seriously. So what does that mean? It means you have a great excuse to get out and enjoy some seriously good spirits, like: 

Swine and Dine‘ at The Collection in Richmond – an evening of bacon and cocktails over two nights (April 4 and 7). 

Learn how to fat-wash (the process of flavouring spirits with bacon fat), how to infuse and how match cocktails with bacon. You’ll also be taught how to make bacon garnishes, including bacon floss, bacon sugar and bacon straws.

A five course World Class cocktail degustation at Eau de Vie bar in the city – if tableside theatrics, custom-built ice moats and palate-provoking drinks are your thing, then so is this event!

Some venues are just offering special cocktails for the week – like the Thai Espresso Martini at Botherambo or the Vietnamese Bloody Mary at Hanoi Hannah

Also coming up though, is Good Beer Week, and if you can only get to one event, I reckon it should be ‘Beer versus Beast‘. It’ll basically be the launch of new beer ‘The Beast Tamer’ from Brewmanity (headed up by former Demon David Neitz) and Balter Brewing Co (a project by champion surfer Mick Fanning). The event will raise fund for the Cure for MND Foundation. It’ll take the form of an epic Sunday session of great beers, music from Mark Seymour and story telling at Ormond Hall on Sunday May 15 from 1pm.
