KATE’S EATS THIS WEEK

Toko Melbourne has arrived. Apparently something of a Sydney institution, the Japanese eatery has taken over a large space in Greville Street Prahran – boasting restaurant, a huge bar, courtyard and whisky bar out back. Didn’t get my hands on much food at the launch, so will have to report back on that!

Got a taste of Polepole Bar’s new BBQ game night. It’s a terrific idea, a $59 feast of some pretty unusual game meats, all cooked over charcoal with great accompaniments. We enjoyed some ostrich, wild boar, crocodile, guinea fowl, wallaby and more. This African bar and eatery in Lt Collins and well worth a look.

For the diary, there’s a terrific sounding ‘Prosecco Dinner’ coming up, The Prosecco Queen (Mel Brauer) has put together a great list of Italian proseccos, and Carmine Costantini from Osteria la Passione some gorgeous Italian dishes (with prosecco) to match them. It’ll be a terrific night, five courses with drinks for $150 . Bookings via Osteria La Passione.

?Tregan Borg told me about a great new idea called the Welcome Dinner Project, matching up Melburnians with migrants, refugees & international students who may not have many contacts … and of course the best way to bring people together is through food … so this is a bring a plate type affair. See www.joiningthedots.org for more info.

Finally got to the refurbished Maha and it is an absolute stunner, with food to match. The cured swordfish was mindblowing.

Off to Hamilton today to check out Tosca Brown’s and the new Blenheim Bar … will report back next week.
