A Moveable Feast: This Week In Food – August 19
THIS WEEK IN FOOD
SERIOUSLY “YUM” CHA – You can already get great Chinese at the revamped Builders Arms, home to the Ricky & Pinky dining room, well now you can get seriously good Yum Cha too. Available Friday to Sunday for lunch only, there are no trolleys, but a great tickbox menu with pearlers like ArChan Chan’s prawn toast, Peking duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce, sichuan pork dumplings in chilli oil, and cumin lamb with fresh, hot bao. http://buildersarmshotel.com.
MAKER AND MARKET – Wilson & Market is launching a series of Meet the Maker events, starting with Australian winemaker Mac Forbes. For $25, you can expect tastings of new single vineyard releases paired with fine cheeses from Yarra Valley Dairy and Stone and Crow Cheese Company , in surrounds of the stunning new Wilson & Market wine store. That’ll happen Saturday August 26, 12-2pm. More info: www.wilsonandmarket.com.au
A COPPER POT OR TWO – Having attended another of Hilary McNevin’s “Pep Events” last week, I’m convinced they are absolutely worth recommended. So here’s the next one – “Local Food. Local Beer”. It’ll see Seddon eatery Copper Pot pair for a second year with La Sirene Brewery, but this one’s a progressive experience. You’ll head first to the brewery in Alphington, where you’ll get an exclusive tour by Chief Artisans Costa Nikias & Will MacDonald. Then, jump on a bus to Copper Pot where chefs Ashley Davis and Sascha Rust will create a clever Sunday lunch inspired by the brews you’ve just sipped. Tickets – https://www.cookingbooking.
BEER BONANZA – Royal Melbourne Oktoberfest is back and organisers promise it’ll be better than ever. The location is Royal Exhibition Building, there’ll be over 50 different imported German beers available, and it’ll be the first Australian Oktoberfest to feature each of the six Munich Oktoberfest Breweries.
Of course there’ll be food classics like pork hock, bratwurst and pretzels on offer, traditional German ‘oompah’ bands, beer barrel races, yodellers and much more. Tix already available for the September 23 event at www.royalmelbourneoktoberfest.
