TAKE A TRIP: I saw The Trip to Spain during the week, another cracker from Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, playing themselves travelling around eating in picturesque locations for a British newspaper; the title gives it away, this time in Spain. Well, the Sun Theatre in Yarraville is teaming up with local restaurant Copperpot to make one screening a little more interactive. On Wednesday August 16, you can watch it with an accompanying curated Spanish food and beverage road trip to perfectly match with the journey of the film. Only 50 tickets available and they are selling fast. More info – https://www.suntheatre.com.au
PUB PEP UP: Hillary McNevin’s Pep Alliance is still coming up with interesting, informative and tasty food events, and here’s another! The Farmer, The Brewer & The Publican is a lunch at Tony Leonard’s favourite pub, The Lincoln, in Carlton. They’ll have a whole, small pig, a quarter of a steer, 6 taps, and some fine conversation between publican Iain Ling, Tassie farmer/brewer Ashley Huntington, and Hillary herself. $115 will get you your food and drinks, book online at https://cookingbooking.com/
RIVER REGION COMES TO TOWN: For the first time, the Winemakers of Rutherglen are transforming a Melbourne laneway into a magical winter wine bar with tastings and a cellar door experience by the winemakers themselves. From Muscat and Durif to sparkling reds and alternative white varietals, there’ll be plenty of drops on hand. It’ll all have the evening of Fri 25 August, then Sat and Sun 27 & 28th from 12pm in Driver Lane. Entry is free, as are the tastings, or you can buy food and wine at bar prices. ONE FOR ME, ONE FOR YOU: Sydney’s about to get its first internationally branded, new-build five star since the Olympics in the form of a shiny new Sofitel at Darling Harbour. To celebrate, they’re gettin’ all generous on us. On Tuesday 3 October, the hotel will donate 28 floors to 28 charities, giving each charity 15 rooms to sell through their own fundraising activities. Each charity will have its own dedicated floor and guests – winners/recipients of the allotted room allocations – will receive overnight accommodation for two people, breakfast and entry to VIP events on the night. http://www.
