‘A new era’: Tom Elliott heaps praise on the Matildas and their ‘extraordinary’ achievement
Tom Elliott says the Matildas may have changed women’s sport in Australia forever, lauding their “amazing” effort at the World Cup.
The 3AW Drive host was left gobsmacked by the unprecedented television ratings for Wednesday night’s semi-final clash with England.
“You can safely say that just about half the Australian population watched the Matildas – that is extraordinary,” Tom Elliott said.

Tom Elliott also shared his thoughts on the ugly scenes at Federation Square on Wednesday night.
“But let’s not let that take away from the enormity of what the Matildas achieved,” he said.
Adriano Del Monte, a reporter for Optus Sport, said the tournament had been “wonderful” and the sport would only continue to grow in Australia on the back of the Matildas’ success.
