‘It makes sense’: Experts welcome idea for ‘pop-up childcare’ on site at workplaces
Experts say offering childcare services in the workplace during school holidays “makes sense” to ease the burden on parents while the office is quiet.
A new child care operator is offering school holiday programs on site for Australian businesses, a move welcomed by Peter Wilson from the Human Resources Institute of Australia.
He said it would be relatively easy for businesses to create an area for kids in the school holidays during a peak period of time for people to take annual leave.
“Re-configuring the floor space to provide a corner, or a cul-de-sac where you could use it as a childcare facility as makes a lot of sense,” he told Tony Jones.
“Having a pop-up holiday childcare provider come in for those two to three weeks where they could provide a section of the workplace for looking after children of those at work down the hall makes a lot of sense, and I commend it.
“It’s all about supporting your employees.”
