A social expert’s take on a book which claims marriage is bad for women

A new book by Clementine Ford says marriage is a bad thing for women and underpins the patriarchal family.

Senior Lecturer in development studies and social and political sciences, Dr Violeta Schubert, says marriage can be a bad thing for some women, but she suspects Ms Ford was talking about the “institution” of marriage.

“For arguments sake …  If it’s in the legal system, if it’s framed in our work environment, such as the care arrangements, the leave arrangements, it is truly systemic, discrimination,” she told Tom Elliott.
