Should we be able to exceed the speed limit to overtake someone on a single lane road?

American state Idaho have done just that.

They want to increase the speed limit by 15km when overtaking.

‘I think it’s one of the most brilliant ideas I have heard,’ Tom Elliott said.

Steve Pizzati, former host of Top Gear Australia and driving instructor says ‘common sense’ should allow us to do this without being fined.

‘Minimise the amount of time on the wrong side of the road, but if that means exceeding the limit, I would like to think you could argue it is safer to do that,’ Pizzati told 3AW Drive.

‘All of us have done it.’
