‘About 3000’: Metro confirms trespassing incidents on the rise

Commuters have been left frustrated as the frequency of train delays due to trespassers has nearly doubled.
Executive director of network assets at Metro, Paul O’Halloran, confirmed trespasser incidents have increased significantly in the last year.
“The impact of trespassers having a massive impact on Metro to be able to deliver a good service to its customers,” he told Jacqui Felgate.

He says the increase is partly related to an increase in patronage, but mental health played a big role.
“This year we’ve had about three thousand [total incidents in the past 12 months] … In terms of recidivists, their volume has gone up … it’s about 10 people [at any time].” he said.
