‘Absolute cop out’: The statement from Anika Wells which Tony Jones took exception to
Tony Jones has slammed communications minister Anika Wells for her response to questions about the recent Optus outage which caused carnage across the country.
The outage resulted from a network upgrade which caused a technical failure and impacted Triple Zero services, which led to 600 failed emergency calls and four fatalities.
“That’s just an absolute cop out,” Jones said on 3AW Mornings.

Telecommunications expert Rob Nicholls said Wells’ comments weren’t great, and had some advice for the communications minister.
“This is probably not the time to be listening to industry, and much more the time for policy change,” Mr Nicholls said.
