‘Absolute idiot’: American influencer blasted over baby wombat stunt

American influencer Sam Jones has been slammed after a video emerged of her on social media grabbing a baby wombat away from its mother.

Both Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Liberal Senator Jane Hume didn’t hold back on their thoughts on the video, labelling the woman an “absolute idiot” and a “silly, silly woman”.

“People who come to Australia on visas shouldn’t be idiots, and clearly that’s what she has been,” Marles said on 3AW Drive.

Wombat rescuer, Yolandi Vermaak, also condemned the actions of the influencer, stating she’s “in rage by this”.

“I think the fear that’s been inflicted on these two is just so inhumane,” Ms Vermaak said on 3AW Breakfast.
