Accused Bourke Street killer unlikely to face trial until 2018
It could be at least another year before the accused Bourke Street killer faces trial over the car rampage that claimed six lives.
The Director of Public Prosecutions John Champion SC says it’s likely Dimitrious Gargasoulas won’t face a committal hearing until 2018.?
Justice Lex Lasry told a hearing on the case’s progress it seems a very long time for all those involved to wait.
But the DPP says the investigation is the biggest of its type with more than 1000 witnesses, multiple crime scenes, and countless security and phone footage of the incident to go through.
Given the strong public interest, Lasry has requested another court timeline update in a few months.
