Victoria Police Acting Deputy Commissioner of Regional Operations, David Clayton, has given a “frank and forthright” interview following the release of Victoria’s latest crime statistics.

Crime rose by a staggering 13.2 per cent in the year to the end of March. The youth crime rate is the highest it’s been since electronic records began and there’s been a mammoth 41.7 per cent increase in car thefts.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Clayton says police “find the level of overall crime unacceptable”.
