ACTU boss pushes for even bigger increase to minimum wage

ACTU secretary Sally McManus says the union’s push for a 5.5 per cent rise to the minimum wage is “reasonable” and in fact vital for low-income families to survive.
The issue of wage increases has been flung firmly into the election spotlight after Anthony Albanese publicly declared he’d support a wage increase of 5.1 per cent to keep up with inflation.
Neil Mitchell says that’s dangerous.
Sally McManus says it doesn’t go far enough, pushing for a 5.5 per cent increase to the minimum wage.
“This isn’t extra money, this is actually survival money, at the moment,” she said.
She said many families were struggling to “keep their head above water” in the current economic environment.
