Hawthorn’s semi-final thrashing of Adelaide should also serve as a warning for the Western Bulldogs, says Matthew Lloyd.

The Essendon great said on 3AW Football the 74-point hiding highlighted the difference in game styles between the top sides and also rans.

While thrilling to watch, Lloyd said last Saturday’s elimination final between the Bulldogs and Crows ultimately proved a false guide.

‘It wasn’t how finals are really played,’ Lloyd explained.

‘It was exciting to watch ? both sides kicking 100 points ? but against the big boys?

‘Even Luke Beveridge should be sitting at home thinking ‘we need to step things up’ and not be happy with the year they had.’
