AEC hints that it won’t fine a disabled man who didn’t vote
The AEC has hinted that it won’t fine a disabled man who didn’t vote due to circumstances beyond his control.
On Thursday, Tom Elliott heard from Rob, a man with a disability who applied for a postal vote, but it never arrived.
He was subsequently hit with a letter from the AEC to explain why he didn’t vote.
But a spokesperson has suggested that it doesn’t seem like Rob’s situation would result in a fine.
‘We operate on the basis of being reasonable,’ the AEC’s Phil Diak said.
‘Rob should respond to the letter and just set out what he’s said to you.’
