AFLW ready to go
The AFL Women’s league kicks-off on Friday night with Collingwood taking on old rivals Carlton at Ikon Park.
Speaking on 3AW Afternoons, Collingwood defender and Football Operations manager Meg Hutchins is feeling excited ahead of the first match.
‘It’s been a long time coming, a lot of players have waited their whole life for this occasion, for myself, I’ve been playing for 15 years now and never thought it was a possibility, to have this opportunity is something the girls are going to cherish and really hold close to them.’
When asked what fans can expect on Friday night, ‘I think you’ll probably see football in it’s most purest form…you’ll see a lot of free-flowing, a lot of fast ball movement, we’ve got a responsibility to make sure it’s the most exciting spectacle that people can come and watch’ she said.
Facing old rivals Carlton, Hutchins is sure that no-one will be holding back, ‘The girls don’t take a backwards step, they’re fierce competitors and we wouldn’t want to have it any other way’ she said.
The first AFLW game between Collingwood v Carlton kicks off Friday night from 7:45pm at Ikon Pak. Entry is FREE.
