New research shows one in five teachers thought about quitting in the past three months.

The 2017 Teachers Report Card found 90 per cent found their job rewarding, but one in five wanted to leave the profession.

Deputy President of the Australian Education Union, Justin Mullaly, told 3AW’s Tony Jones the figures are alarming.

“They’re reflected of what we’ve known for a long period of time, that workload is a major concern of our members, teachers and principals,” said Mr Mullaly.

“It’s not only having an impact on them in terms of the important work they do, we know it’s also having an impact on student learning.”
