‘Alarming’ research reveals Antarctica’s potential future
Scientists are warning emperor penguins could be extinct in the next 75 years, with sea levels expected to rise.
Lead author of the report Chief scientist at the Australian Antarctic Division Dr Nerilie Abram says they’re witnessing ‘alarming’ changes due to climate change.
“The habitat that they’re using to raise their chicks, that ice is being lost before the chicks have fledged and got their waterproof feathers,” she told Ross and Russel.
