Alarming stats spark new road safety ‘courtesy’ campaign
A campaign to bring back the courtesy wave on our roads has launched as an alarming new survey reveals half of Australians have reported higher levels of aggression on the roads over the past year.
It comes after several serious road rage incidents in recent weeks.
Chief executive officer of the Australian Road Safety Foundation, Russell White, says “we are seeing increased aggression and level of selfishness on the streets” post-pandemic.

More than half of drivers are speeding, 62 per cent admit to making dangerous decision on the roads, and more than four-in-10 are using mobile phones. Mr White says younger drivers — those under 25 — are of particular concern.
“That sort of habit stays with them for a long time,” he told Neil Mitchell.
