Albanese government accused of ‘protecting’ profits of Qantas

The Albanese government is being accused of protecting the profits of Qantas after it knocked back an application from Qatar Airways to launch 28 new flights per week.
Virgin Australia chief executive Jayne Hrdlicka says allowing more competition would drive down soaring airfares. Just last week, Qantas announced a record underlying profit of $2.47bn.
The federal government’s relationship with Qantas was flung into the media spotlight recently when it was revealed the Prime Minister’s 23-year-old son had been granted access to the super exclusive Qantas Chairman’s Lounge.
