The days of single use plastic bags in Victoria are numbered.

As reported in the Herald Sun, all lightweight plastic bags, including those used by milk bars, takeaway shops and small supermarkets and retail stores, will be banned in Victoria by the end of next year.

Lily D’Ambrosio, Minister for Environment and Climate Change told Ross and John this is about extending the ban imposed by the major supermarkets in recent weeks.

“Today is about the ban being effective right across the retail sector,” she said.

“We’ve heard from small and large retailers, we want to make sure a legislative ban comes out of this.”

“So Kmart, Target, toy stores, it doesn’t matter what it is?” Ross asked.

“That’s right,” Minister D’Ambrosio replied.
