A mother says the state government needs to do better to communicate with the community after she was left with no idea what to do after yesterday’s storms.

Erin says her son has complex medical needs and needs constant electricity for a ventilator  to stay alive.

“It wasn’t until we were finally able to get on top of the power company and they pretty much offered us no help or support and told us to call emergency services,” she told Jacqui Felgate.

She also says the government’s efforts to communicate with people impacted by the massive weather event was not good enough.

“More communication, less social media,” she said.

Another caller, Tash, says she was separated from her children with no phone coverage when the wild weather hit Mirbool yesterday afternoon.

“It took me two and a half hours to get home and the kids were home by themselves,” she said.

She also says powerlines are down around Mirbool and Thordale.

“It’ll take quite a long time before we see any restoration up there,” she said.
