The Australian Medical Association wants a ban on cage-fighting in Victoria reinstated.

But Tom Elliott says it’d be a nanny-state move.

Dr Xavier Yu said a study had shown 31 per cent of fights had ended with at least one competitor suffering a ‘traumatic brain injury.’

‘Given those figures, that is a high concern we have,’ he said.

‘And we don’t know the long-term consequences.’

Dr Yu said a ‘very consistent’ stance when it came to combat sports.

‘We’ll continue to lobby,’ he declared.

But Tom Elliott said nobody was ‘forced’ to fight.

‘They know the risks,’ the 3AW Drive host said.
