Leaked information has revealed some hospitals could be at risk of closing or job losses ahead of this year’s state budget, as the state’s medical system continues to struggle.

Vice president of the Australian Medical Association in Victoria, Dr Simon Judkins, says the industry has not been engaged over the potential job cuts.

“I think the impact will be significant, we try really hard to try and encourage doctors, nurses, physios to come and work in regional and rural areas,” he told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Jacqui Felgate.

He also says Victoria is facing an issue of demand out-pacing supply.

“Ultimately, we’re seeing growing populations, we’re seeing people, particularly in regional and rural areas, having a lot of trouble accessing GPs, and other community services,” he said.
