An emotional Sam Newman pays tribute to ‘marvellous’ mate Shane Warne

Sam Newman has shared an emotional tribute to his mate Shane Warne.

Speaking to Neil Mitchell the morning after the MCG tribute service to the legendary leg spinner, Newman said Warne would “do anything” for his friends.

“He was so interested in who you were, and what you were doing … he looked after me, he respected me,” he said.

Newman became emotional when recalling how Shane Warne helped him after his wife’s death.

“He was so attentive and with everything that was going on in his life, I know if I’d asked him to do anything he would have been there,” he said.

“He rang on a daily basis just to make sure I was ok.

“He was just a marvellous man.”
