Amelia Adams has given a personal insight into life in Ukraine at the moment, admitting the situation feels “heartbreaking and helpless” at times.

Adams is on the ground in Lviv as a correspondent for 9 News.

Neil Mitchell asked her what it was like hearing air raid sirens and hiding in bomb shelters.

It’s there where the human side of the conflict only highlights itself.

“I’m talking to people in these bunkers who are young professionals, students, mums and dads,” Adams told Neil Mitchell.

“A little boy was playing on his mum’s phone just now when we were down there saying he was hungry and bored.

“You’re thinking ‘is this a European city in 2022?’ and we’re running down to a bomb shelter. It’s crazy.”

She said having two children of her own made her reflect even more on the situation at hand.
