Analysts expect daily editions of The Age and Sydney Morning Herald to be axed by the end of the year.

It comes after Fairfax Media posted a full-year net loss of $893.5 million.

Macquarie Media finance editor Ross Greenwood said he was surprised the company didn’t use the announcement to pull the pin on its daily newspapers.

‘Many people suggested this was the day it was going to happen,’ he told Neil Mitchell.

‘My understanding is that if it’s not today, then they’re certainly contemplating the announcement at least in the next few months before the end of the year.’
