Regional first home buyers are set to benefit from an Andrews Government cash splash to help more young people enter the market.

Victorian treasurer Tim Pallas says the doubling of the first home buyer’s grant for people in regional areas will boost jobs, and help people stay in their community.

The grant will increase from $10,000 to $20,000 for contracts signed after July 1 this year.

But there’s fears the increased grant will only lead to increased property prices, as developers cash in.

Sally Capp, the Victorian executive director of the Property Council of Australia, dismissed those concerns.

‘It’s only if you don’t have supply, but we know that there is supply available in those regional areas,’ she explained on 3AW Breakfast.
