Animal Justice MP calls for major welfare changes in horse racing
With the Melbourne Cup Carnival approaching, the debate over horse racing has flared up once again.
Animal Justice MP Georgie Purcell joined 3AW Drive and was asked about her thoughts on horse racing.
“I don’t think any animal should be used for the purpose of gambling,” Purcell told Jacqui Felgate.

“I would prefer it if horse racing didn’t exist, but I’m also realistic and I would love the industry to make some changes that other countries have done.
“I think the racing industry must accept if it wants to have a social licence and if it wants to maintain relevancy … they need to make some changes.”
