RUMOUR CONFIRMED

An envelope containing $50,000 was anonymously dropped off at a Victorian surf life-saving club earlier this year, with nothing but the money and a simple note inside.

“Thanks for saving my life 50 years ago,” the note read.

On Wednesday, the Rumour File was told about the generous donation, which was made on Easter Saturday.

Treasurer of the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club, Stuart Will, says the club still has no idea who the donor was.

“We still don’t know the identity of the donor. So it was completely anonymous. It was handed in to our kiosk and the gentleman, we assume the executor of the estate, just virtually dropped it off,” he said.

“The only piece of information we have is he was from the Werribee area.”

The money will be spent on equipment and training.
