Anthony Albanese responds to calls to cut the tax on petrol
The man who could be Prime Minister within months isn’t ruling out cutting the tax on petrol, should Labor win power.
With the cost of unleaded petrol tipped to reach as much as $3 a litre by the middle of the year, Anthony Albanese said a review of the petrol excise could be on the table.
Drivers currently pay just over 44 cents in excise for every litre purchased.
“We think that everything, in terms of making a difference to people’s pressure on their living standards, will be given proper consideration,” Mr Albanese told Neil Mitchell.
The Coalition’s Energy Minister, Angus Taylor, has ruled out reducing the fuel excise.
