ANZ boss Shayne Elliott has told Neil Mitchell Victoria is “one of the toughest places” in Australia to do business right now, singling out the increased payroll tax, which will cost up to $30 million a year.

The ANZ would look at moving more jobs to Queensland if they successfully acquire Suncorp.

Mr Elliott says while they won’t be leaving the state altogether, there may be better opportunities interstate.

He also spoke on ANZ branches phasing out cash, the Reserve Bank and how they “still have a lot of work to do”, mortgage stress and workers still working from home.
