Apology to Justice Gillard
On 1 April 2017, an interview was conducted between Gillon McLachlan, CEO of the AFL, and Caroline Wilson during the 3AW pre-match program.
During that interview Ms Wilson asserted that only three copies of the investigation report into the West Coast Eagles were made, and Ms Wilson enquired as to whether Mr Andrew Dillon, Legal Counsel of the AFL, had leaked the investigation report.
In response to Mr McLachlan’s denials, Ms Wilson asked whether his Honour Justice Gillard, who wrote the report, leaked it and asked, if Mr Dillon had not leaked the report, whether his Honour had leaked it.
This was wrong – what Ms Wilson said about the judge was wrong.
Justice Gillard did not leak the report. Justice Gillard was contracted by the AFL to keep the report confidential and has always done so, consistent with his conduct as a barrister and judge of many years standing.
Radio 3AW apologises to Justice Gillard for any hurt caused by this statement, in particular any hurt or distress caused by suggesting that he would willingly breach his confidentiality obligations.
