Are we fixing the wrong level crossings?

The government has come under pressure this morning after The Age detailed a VicRoads report that says 19 of Melbourne’s most congested level crossings have been left off Labor’s list of 50 to be removed.

But an independent transport consultant says the VicRoads report is hardly gospel itself.

‘It’s not a perfect report in its own right.

‘The VicRoads report which is addressed in The Age article I found to be a very limited view of what the rationale should be for prioritising these projects.

‘It says very little about things like urban renewal, which I think most people would agree is fundamentally important’

I think most people on a common sense basis will be asking questions about traffic congestion in that particular area.
