ARIA awards to scrap ‘gendered’ awards
The ARIA’s are scrapping gendered categories at this year’s music awards ceremony.
It means there will no longer be a “best male artist” or “best female artist” award.
“I actually think this is a good idea,” Tom Elliott said on 3AW.
Annabelle Herd, ARIA Chief Executive, said it made “complete sense” to make the change.
“Why on earth would we exclude people,” she said.
There will be 10 nominees in the running for the award, to combat the fact there will be one less award.
