Artificial light consuming earth’s darkness
Earth is losing its darkness, with artificially lit surfaces around the world spreading and producing more light pollution at night, a new study has found.
Light pollution is growing by two per cent every year, The Age reports.
Australian Astronomical Observatory Astronomer, Professor Fred Watson, told Ross and John one of the causes is LED lighting.
“We now know that the blue rich light of LEDs, it’s actually quite deleterious to human health, it inhibits Melatonin secretion, it means we can’t sleep,” Professor Watson said.
“It’s also bad for the environment.”
