Senior Victorian police are remaining tight-lipped on a new police pursuit policy coming into effect today.

Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer wouldn’t reveal details of the new policy, except to say there was some confusion for members which prompted its overhaul.

He said he expected there would be more pursuits.

‘We’ve provided absolute clarity to our members they know what the policy is, they know when they can and can’t engage,’ he told Neil Mitchell.

‘As we’ve discussed we don’t want to talk about it publicly because we don’t want to inform the criminal element around what the thresholds are.’
