Police command say they are seeking external advice on how to stop the growing number of youths committing violent home invasions and car jackings.

The increased crimes across western Melbourne has seen residents arming themselves with golf clubs, baseball bats, and even spear guns.

Tom Elliot spoke with Assistant Commissioner Stephen Leane.

He says police are working on addressing all sides of the problem.

‘It is fair our community is concerned. We are trying to work it out ourselves’ – The Commissioner told 3AW Drive.
