Rule changes, COVID, the floating fixture and subpar public transport are among the reasons fans aren’t returning to the footy as expected this year, according to the AFL Fans Association.

It’s been revealed crowds this season are down 16 per cent on 2019, the last season that wasn’t impacted by the pandemic.

Tom Elliott admits he’s surprised, saying he went into the season thinking fans would be itching to get back to the ground after two seasons impacted by lockdown.
