Three people have been confirmed dead after a light plane crash at Barwon Heads.

A fourth person is missing, feared dead.

The light plane came down at around 12:30pm on Friday about 2km off Coollendina Beach at Barwon Heads.

The search zone for debris stretches about 2km and includes some areas of land.

In an unrelated incident, AirServices Australia has confirmed that a helicopter pilot reported he had to swerve to miss a drone flying at 700 feet.

The incident occurred around 3pm between Moorabbin Airport Tower & the CBD, which is outside of controlled airspace. The report has been sent to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority for investigation.
