Aussie nurse nicknamed Rita in Rio calls in to Neil Mitchell
She’s the Melbourne nurse who’s been dubbed ‘Rita in Rio’ and this world tour’s not over yet.
Rita is one of a team of hundreds of volunteers working behind the scenes in Brazil, this time as part of the medical doping control team, collecting samples from athletes for testing purposes.
‘They are everyday people, I even forget they are athletes,’ she said.
‘They are friendly, chatty, they keep saying thank you for volunteering.’
It’s a rewarding job, and one she’s taken up before in 2004 in Athens. And she’s not done volunteering yet.
