Australians are reading books to appear more intelligent or help score a date.

Behavioural expert Grazina Fechner told 3AW Breakfast hosts Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft it was less about intelligence and more about curiosity and growth.

Press PLAY to hear why Fechner says this trend has become so common

“Reading doesn’t make you more intelligent, it makes you appear like you are wanting to learn or be curious,” she said.
