Aussies stockpiling popular painkiller ahead of proposed change

Ross and Russ

Australians have begun stockpiling paracetamol more than a year out from proposed changes which would limit pack sizes to 32 tablets.

CEO of Pain Australia, Giulia Jones, says the change proposed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration will drive up the cost of the common painkiller and harm Australians living with chronic pain.

“We’re saying no because it will hit the lowest income at the most in pain people the most,” she told Ross and Russel.

“The vast majority of people use this medicine really, really well and they need to be able to get it just the same as they are now.”

The proposed changes comes as part of a push to reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths caused by paracetamol overdoses.
