More than a thousand Australians have been recognised on the Australia Day Honours list today.

Of those awarded, 48 per cent are women.

It’s the highest percentage since the honours system began in 1975.

Aboriginal musician Archie Roach has been posthumously made a Companion of the Order (AC) in this year’s awards.

Lieutenant General John Frewen, who oversaw the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, has also been recognised.

Actor David Wenham has been made a Member of the Order (AM), while actress Claudia Karvan is an Order of Australia (OAM) recipient.

Chef and TV personality Kylie Kwong and health commentator Dr Norman Swan have both received Member of the Order (AM) awards.
