One CBD business says they were forced to close for two hours on Friday afternoon as a result of Australia Day protests.

Thong Thai in Bourke St – just metres from the steps of Parliament House – shut its doors due to the volume of people in the area last Friday, with restaurant owner Angelo Yap telling 3AW Drive customers actively avoid his store as a result of protests.

“The customers feel unsafe so they don’t go to that part of the city,” he told Tom Elliott.

“Especially when it’s a big protest, we have to shut. Last Friday (on Australia Day) we had to shut for two hours.”
