Australian basketballer Patty Mills joins Ross and John in studio
Australian basketball star Patty Mills says he’s confident the Boomers can win a medal at the Olympics, despite a growing list of injuries and withdrawals.
The San Antonio Spurs guard joined Ross and John in studio on Wednesday.
Australia had been seen as a potential dark horse heading towards Rio but that confidence has since been somewhat dented, with elite talents Dante Exum and Ben Simmons both making themselves unavailable for selection.
Simmons is about to be selected with the first pick of this year’s NBA Draft.
Veteran big man Andrew Bogut is also under a serious injury cloud after suffering a nasty knee strain in the NBA Finals.
But Mills, 27, said the squad would still be more than capable of doing well, regardless.
‘This is arguably the best team Australia has ever put together to go to an Olympics,’ he said on 3AW Breakfast.
‘Our chances are good.’
And he hasn’t given up hope of Bogut still being there.
‘I’m sure he’ll do whatever he can,’ Mills said.
Mills also revealed he ‘missed footy like crazy’ while living in the US and spoke about his beloved Adelaide Crows.
